Budapest Déli Train Station Closed For Weeks
Budapest’s Déli train station was abruptly closed on Sunday for an unspecified number of weeks, due to the collapse of a wall in a tunnel. Traffic has been redirected to Kelenföld station in the 11th District, but a number of trains have had to be cancelled as the additional burden exceeds the smaller station’s capacity.

State railway company MÁV does not know when normal service can resume, as a temporary bolstering of the supporting walls near the tunnel could take weeks.

The mishap is blamed on rain gathering at Csukló utca in the 11th District, weakening the buttressing wall alongside the track between Déli and Kelenföldi stations.

MÁV says the area above the tunnel is handled by the 11th District Council and responsibility rests with that local authority.
