Hungary’s President Áder Surveys Normafa Renewal Plans
President János Áder described a plan to restore the Normafa area in Budapest’s 12th District as ambitious on Wednesday after he visited the venues of planned rehabilitation in the company of the district’s Fidesz mayor Zoltán Pokorni.

He said both the natural and the built-up environment must be protected.

Áder, who also lives in the district, said he has been waiting for 25 years to see the restoration of decrepit buildings in the area.

Pokorni described the restoration of Normafa as a five- to eight-year project.

Restoration of historic buildings and the renovation of paths in the woods will cost about Ft 5 billion, he estimated.

A separate item is the renovation of the cogwheel railway, which will require EU funding. The cost is estimated at Ft 20 billion.
