Jewish Graves Desecrated In Hungary
Unidentified people have desecrated graves in the Jewish cemetery in Gyöngyös, in some cases scattering the remains of the dead, president of the town’s Jewish religious community Péter Weisz announced on Sunday. He said the perpetrators damaged the graves, desecrated the remains of those buried there and caused serious financial damage to the fence surrounding the cemetery.

The Prime Minister’s Office issued a statement on Sunday condemning the act as barbaric.

Undersecretary for social issues Csaba Latorcai said the cabinet acts against national, ethnic, religious and other forms of hatred with all available tools.

The cabinet will launch a Ft 1 billion programme this year to renew cemeteries.

Police have begun an investigation.
