Lázár Calls For Utility Companies Probe Over Suspicion Of Overcharging
Cabinet chief János Lázár has said he wants to conduct a review of the way utilities companies metered and billed their customers, as he suspected there was an abundance of overcharging.

The gas and electricity sector would come under scrutiny first, followed by waterworks and rubbish pickup services, Lázár told commercial Hír TV.

He said the state had discovered data suggesting metering and billing manipulation at gas distributor Főgáz when it conducted due diligence on the company before acquiring its shares.

In a number of cases, Főgáz overcharged blocks of flats 20-30%, while refusing residents’ request to replace meters, he added.
