Orbán Addresses Hungarian Envoys
The prime minister said Hungary’s opening to the East had happened and “the gate is open” and now it is time to take a different direction and turn to the South and African and Latin American countries. Viktor Orbán said if Africa succeeds in becoming stabilised then this will produce big opportunities for the global economy.

This year’s foreign policy programme primarily focuses on Asia but the foreign minister has already embarked on the opening to the South, he said, adding that his own foreign visits would be directed accordingly next year.

On the topic of US-Hungary ties, he said Hungary must get used to the fact that the interests of Hungary and the United States are not fully aligned, but there is no need for any ensuing conflict.

“There is no need to stoke up ideological issues,” Orbán said, adding that these should be put into the background and diplomacy should concentrate on areas of cooperation.

The prime minister also said next year’s budget was planned to be drafted by the end of the spring parliamentary session.

Whereas there was no definite timeframe, it is expected that the 2016 budget will be ready by the end of the current session in mid-June, he added.
