State Audit Office Finds Problems At Tax Authority
The State Audit Office (ÁSZ) has found discrepancies at the National Tax and Customs Office (NAV) during a recent screening, ÁSZ told MTI. The shortcomings identified were under the headings of internal regulations, up-to-date management tools, risk management and the paper trail system in audits, ÁSZ said in a statement.

In 2009-2013, the period examined by ÁSZ in terms of NAV’s tax collection success rate, the Office found that the amount of outstanding taxes and customs duty grew by 8.8% to 2,260.9 billion forints (EUR 7.4bn).

Fully 97.1% of the outstanding amount was in taxes, ÁSZ said.

The ministry of economy said in response that ÁSZ had found no “grave errors” at the tax office, but it expected the tax authority to act on the audit office’s recommendations and correct shortfalls as soon as possible.
