Hungary’s President: Climate Change Could Strongly Affect Migration
- 29 Apr 2015 9:00 AM
Climate change could result in unforeseeable waves of migration, President János Áder said in a lecture about environmental sustainability and climate change at a university campus in Szarvas, in southeast Hungary. He said the Earth’s population has risen from 2 billion in 1900 to around 7.5 billion by now and it is expected to increase by 2 billion by 2050.
Greenhouse gas emissions increased by 30% in the past 25 years.
This has resulted in a shift towards extreme weather conditions, food supply problems, rising sea levels caused by melting ice and water shortages, which can generate wars.
As a result, experts in water management bear a great responsibility, he added.
