Sheriff System Supported In Miskolc, Hungary
Miskolc local council on Thursday supported the introduction of a so-called sheriff system whereby every district of the city will have a local council law enforcement officer. The number of staff members performing law enforcement duties for Miskolc local council will be raised to 160 on the basis of the council decision.

These officers are answerable to the city, whereas local police are employees of the Interior Ministry.

The sheriffs will take courses in street patrols, as well as communication and conflict management.

They are to maintain relations with local residents, local councillors and police with the aim of developing a bond of trust between themselves and the community.
