Suspicious Parcel On Bulgarian Bus Near Budapest Not Linked To Terrorist Org
The suspicious parcel found on a Bulgarian bus near Budapest last Saturday— reportedly an explosive device—cannot be linked to any terrorist organisation, Hungary’s counter terrorism force TEK said. “The information available to date has not raised the suspicion of an ideologically or political motivated act of terrorism. The act cannot be linked to any terrorist organisation or religious radicalism either,” it said.

The TEK is not directly involved in the investigation but is helping its Hungarian and European partners, it added.

Passengers of the bus travelling from Prague to Varna sensed the strong smell of a chemical. The driver opened the luggage compartment to find a plastic bottle containing a liquid and a clock with wires. Police were called to the site immediately. Hungarian police said on Monday that a bomb squad had defused the “suspicious parcel” and taken it away for further investigation.

The National Investigation Office has launched investigation on suspicion of attempted murder. News website nol.hu cited Dragomir Petkova, director of the company operating the bus, as saying that a Czech or Slovak man is suspected to have planted a pipe bomb on the bus that carried 34 Bulgarian and Romanian passengers.

Dragomir Petkov, the driver, said that a 25-year-old Czech or Slovak passenger, who had a ticket from Prague to Bratislava and seemed to be drunk, got off the bus in a car park near Brno and did not return.
