Forbes: Budapest Among Europe’s Top Five Entrepreneurial Hubs
Budapest has been included on the business magazine Forbes’s list of Europe’s top five entrepreneurial hubs. While pointing out that large technological investors continue to favour London and Berlin, a number of other hotspots for aspiring entrepreneurs exists further afield, the article writes, citing Eindhoven in the Netherlands, the Portuguese capital Lisbon, the Estonian capital Tallinn, Lithuania as a whole and Budapest as top examples.

“Hungary’s post-communist transformation may not yet be quite complete, but its capital city is now acknowledged as a prime draw for start-ups, investors and incubators in the Central and Eastern European (CEE) region”, Forbes writes in praise of the Hungarian capital, citing the Budapest-founded call encryption service CryptTalk as an example., along with the now-global companies Ustream, LogMeIn and Prezi.

The Hungarian capital’s success as a hub for startups can be largely attributed to Péter B. Záboji, founder and chairman of the European Entrepreneurship Foundation (EEF), which for the last seven years has been running accelerator programmes and investor events that have resonated with a new generation of Hungarian entrepreneurs.

The article credits Colabs with being the first tech startup opf its kind in Hungary, while iCatapult aims to take European technologies to the global market.
