KSH: More And More Hungarians Can Afford Holidays Abroad
In the first quarter of this year, Hungarians paid a total 3.6 million visits to other countries, 5.4% up from the same period last year, according to Central Statistical Office (KSH) data. Spending by those Hungarian visitors amounted to 125 billion forints (EUR 400m), up 13% compared to 2014.

The KSH report noted that it was the number of longer visits which accounted for the increase, while single-day trips, mostly to Austria and Slovakia, had dropped in the January-March period. Over 50% of the trips were made by tourists, 15 percentage points up from 2014.

The Central Statistical Office has also published fresh data on foreigners spending holidays in Hungary. Austrians spent 41 billion forints (EUR 131m) in the country in the first quarter of this year, the report said, adding that Slovaks spent 29 billion, Germans 25 billion, Americans 22 billion and Romanians 21 billion forints.

Altogether spending by foreign guests amounted to 288 billion forints, up 11% in the first three months compared with the same period a year earlier. The KSH also noted that in the first quarter foreigners paid 9.4 million visits, 7.4% more than in the same period of 2014.
