Weather Warning: Extreme Heat Expected This Weekend In Hungary
Temperatures expected to reach 36 °C. In reaction to the heat wave, the national meteorological service has extended its heat warning issued earlier to several counties and raised its level to second degree. Maximum temperatures on Friday afternoon were expected to be at 30 to 33 °C , which will fall no lower than 19-24 °C late in the evening.

The second-degree warning has been extended to Baranya, Bács-Kiskun, Békés, Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén, Csongrád, Győr-Moson-Sopron, Hajdú-Bihar, Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok, Komárom-Esztergom, Somogy, Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg, Zala and Pest counties, as well as the capital, with medium temperatures reaching or exceeding 25 °C in an increasingly large chunk of the country.

This will be accompanied by sparse rainfall in the afternoons, most probably in the northeast. The heat wave is expected to peak on Sunday, according to the meteorological office.

Health officials have warned that while the extreme heat has the potential of causing grievances for anyone, young children, the elderly and those suffering from heart and circulation problems are especially at risk.

The national rail carrier MÁV is handing out free bottles of mineral water at Budapest’s Keleti, Nyugati and Déli pályaudvar railway stations and several rail hubs across the country until Monday or made necessary by the heat, between 10 am and 5 pm.
