Half Of Hungarians Cannot Afford To Go On Holiday
Largely due to financial reasons, half of Hungarians are not planning to go on holiday this year, a survey conducted by the insurance company Genertel on a 500-member sample reveals. Also due to shortage of money, 35 per cent of respondents reported that they will spend their vacation within Hungary. Only 15 per cent of Hungarians have a holiday abroad scheduled for this summer and every fifth of them, or 3 per cent of the total population, will head to Croatia, according to the poll.

The research also points out that close to 30 per cent of respondents decide on which travel insurance package to choose on the basis of comparing costs, but travellers do not necessarily opt for the cheapest option. 30 per cent of people deciding based on costs choose the mid-range price category, deemed safer than the cheapest packages. 12 per cent of Hungarians travelling abroad do so without any form of insurance.

The survey produced a similar result to a recently-published poll conducted by the Central Statistical Office (KSH) last year, figures of which reveal that close to half of the Hungarian population took part in an inland vacation in 2014. In the course of last year, Hungarian tourists took 15 million multi-day journeys within the country and spent 61 million days doing so, a slight positive change compared to the previous year.

In 2014, Hungarians travelled abroad on 16 million occasions, 1.9 per cent more than last year.
