Nyugati Train Station In Budapest Reopens After Two-Week Closure
Central Budapest’s Nyugati pályaudvar railway station has reopened after a two-week maintenance period in the early hours of Monday, meaning that passenger trains are again serving the station according to regular schedules. Most of the station has been opened to passengers, although there are still obstacles to pedestrian traffic on the building’s side towards the WestEnd shopping mall.

Gates of the waiting room accessible from the underpass below towards Nyugati tér and WestEnd will remain closed until 11 July due to repairs on the ceiling. Until repairs are completed, pedestrian access is provided through a fire exit opening towards the shopping centre.

The reopening of the station also means that changes in public transport schedules enacted for the period of maintenance works have been abolished and rail tickets and season passes are no longer accepted on Budapest city transport lines.

The station, which receives some 60-70 000 passengers each day, was closed on 5 July for maintenance works. Costing some HUF 290 million, the work carried out is hoped to significantly improve running to schedule and the station’s standards.
