Migrant Smugglers In Pre -Trial Detention In Hungary
Suspected migrant smugglers have been placed in pre-trial custody, the investigative prosecution service said. The service earlier pressed charges against three former police officers from Bács-Kiskun County, in southern Hungary, and two private individuals. A sixth suspected of smuggling migrants over the Hungary-Serbia border was arrested and questioned on Tuesday, and faces also pre-trial detention.

The policemen are believed to have monitored patrols along Hungary’s border with Serbia in the Hercegszántó area, helping those aiding illegal migrants to avoid police checks, the prosecutor said in a statement. In a separate development, Hungarian police have arrested three Hungarian men who had agreed to transport three Syrian nationals from Szeged to Budapest for 150 euros each, a spokesman for Csongrád county police said on Tuesday.

The three men were arrested before the deal was fulfilled, Szabolcs Szenti said, adding that legal proceedings are under way.
