Hungarian Govt, Magyar Telekom Reach Deal On Expanding Broadband Access
Magyar Telekom will invest in broadband internet connections for 230,000 Hungarian households as part of a deal that EU subsidies are not given for geographically parallel investments by other firms. Economy state secretary Ákos Kara told journalists that the Hungarian unit of Deutsche Telekom will build the networks with speeds of at least 30 Mbit/s by April 15, 2018.

Similar commitments to provide 270,000 homes broadband internet have been made by Invitel, UPC, Tarr and other service providers.

Agreements on these networks will be signed in the next two weeks, he added. Kara noted that almost one million Hungarian households still do not have access to broadband internet.
