Suspended EU Payments For Hungary Restarted
Payments have been restarted in the first three priorities of the Economic Development Operational Programme (GOP) after the European Commission stopped the suspension of payments following a five-month dispute, deputy state secretary at the prime minister’s office Nándor Csepreghy told a press conference. Fully 210 billion forints (EUR 670m) of development funding will be transferred to Hungary in the weeks ahead.

The commission suspended payments in the areas of research and development, complex enterprise development and development of a modern business environment in April because it objected to the project selection system operating since 2007.

These three programmes have enabled 700 billion forints worth of development in Hungary since 2007, Csepreghy said.

The applicants in Hungary have not been directly affected by the suspension because the monies involved were pre-financed by the budget, he said.

As part of the deal with the EC, Hungary applied flat-rate correction to a total value of 21.7 billion forints in the case of projects that the EC deemed problematic, Csepreghy added.
