Stats Office: Hungary’s Population Still Declines
The number of births and deaths in Hungary rose during the first eight months of 2015 on an annual basis, but the death rate outstripped the number of births, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) said. Hungary’s population declined by 28,968 in the first eight months—at a 24.7% higher rate than in the same period of 2014.

There were 60,162 births in January-August in Hungary, 0.5% more than during the same period in 2014. Births increased in the first five months of the year but were down by 3.1% between June and August.

The 30,790 marriages registered in the country in January–August 2015 were by 8.9% or by 2,515 more than in the base period. A significant increase was recorded especially in July, when 20% more marriages were registered than in the same period last year.

The number of deaths was 89,130 in January-August in Hungary, up by an annual 7.2%, KSH said.

The death rate was higher in January-April, lower in May-June and higher in July-August compared to the same period in 2014. The natural decrease of the Hungarian population was 28,968 – 5,743 more than a year earlier.
