Dialogue For Hungary Appeals To Minister On Child Hunger
The opposition Dialogue for Hungary (PM) has appealed to the human resources minister in an open letter for the ruling parties’ support to eliminate the problem of starving children. PM co-leader Tímea Szabó said that all parties should acknowledge the necessity of eliminating child hunger as a national minimum irrespective of party politics.

Should the ruling parties support PM’s proposition on condition that Szabó withdraws her signature from a parliamentary decree recently drafted by civil organisation, she said she would be ready to do so.

Szabó said she “sees the government’s willingness” to ease the problem, but added that the government may not be aware that the number of people living below the poverty line has increased in the past few years.

She cited survey results indicating that the ratio of the poor in families with one breadwinner had gone from 10- 12% to 25% between 2005 and 2012.

According to PM’s estimates, another 50 billion forints (EUR 159m) would be needed to ensure that every child is fed properly.
