Hungarian Economy Minister: CEE Potential Growth Engine In EU
Central Europe could be the growth engine of the European Union in its connection with Germany, Hungary’s economy minister told a conference. Addressing the Osteuropaverein der deutschen Wirtschaft, the German foreign trade association, Mihály Varga noted that Hungary had reached the end of a period of economic consolidation and its performance at the start of 2015 was now at the same level as before the economic crisis, and its economy both more solid and balanced.

The foundation of growth, he added, now rests on several pillars.

The Hungarian government has “clearly and precisely” formulated the goals of its economic policy, and economic players can now count on “security and predictability” in terms of the budget and regulations, he said.

Further, it is now easier than ever for companies to gain access to EU financing as well as a workforce with marketable skills and knowledge. I

n the course of his visit to Berlin, Varga had talks with Wolfgang Schäuble, the German finance minister, and Gabriel Sigmar, the economy minister.
