Hungary’s Competition Office Probes Online Accommodation Booking Market
Hungary’s competition office GVH will start a procedure against Hungarian online booking agents unless they stop pricing practices restricting competition, GVH said, summing up the preliminary results of a report covering the market for online accommodation booking between 2010 and the current period. GVH found that there is no price competition among Hungarian booking services and accommodation prices were the same on all sales channels.

GVH attributes the problem to rate parity clauses, in which the accommodation operator makes a commitment not to sell its rooms through other sales channels at lower prices than those agreed on with the online booking agent.
