New Poll: Over One-Third Of Hungarians Xenophobic
More than one-third of Hungarians are xenophobic, but hostility to outsiders is no greater now than it was in 2014, according to a recent survey by pollsters Tárki. Tárki senior researcher Endre Sik told Népszabadság that xenophobia is high, but was not increased by the government’s anti-refugee national consultation and poster campaign, nor the influx of migrants.

In April 46% of respondents agreed with the xenophobic view that no asylum seeker be allowed into Hungary, but the figure fell to 39% in July and 36% in late October.

The number who are friendly towards refugees has also dropped from the low level of 5%, while those who would let some outsiders in but not others has risen further from 56%.
