Orbán, Stoltenberg Hold Talks In Budapest
The terrorist attacks against France highlight the need to take the arrival of migrants from war zones seriously, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said. European Union member states are, to varying degrees, at war with countries from where such migrants originate from, Orbán said after meeting NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg. It is conceivable that groups are being sent to Europe from the areas in question, resulting in terrorism, he added.

“Since the terrorist attacks in Paris, it is not just the threat of terrorism that we need to talk about but real attacks, and Hungary is taking the war on terror seriously.”

Orbán said controls against the wave of migrants from the south should be stepped up. Stoltenberg said the recent terrorist attacks in Paris were directed not only against innocent people but against open, democratic societies and fundamental values that must be protected.

He called Hungary a valuable member of NATO, noting the country’s contributions to ensuring joint security.

He voiced NATO’s gratitude for its participation in the protection of the Baltic and Slovenian air space and in missions in Afghanistan and Kosovo.

Stoltenberg welcomed the Hungarian government’s decision to increase its defence spending, which he said was important both for the country and NATO as a whole.
