Deutsch Submits Proposals On Internet Based On Consultations In Hungary
Cutting VAT on internet services to 18% and reducing the special tax on telecommunications services are measures included in a draft resolution. The planned measures are based on the results of a national consultation overseen by government commissioner Tamás Deutsch, launched in January 2015 and completed in the autumn. Fully 32,000 people responded to questions concerning internet services in Hungary.

The draft resolution also includes provisions for a low-cost basic internet service, free Wi-Fi in every town and village, net neutrality and a comprehensive digital education strategy, as well as Wi-Fi intranet in schools and colleges and a digital child-protection strategy which criminalises online bullying.

Investors in start-ups will get tax breaks under the plans which also include measures to improve the security of online trading and revamping magyarorszag. hu to transform it into a central portal for e-government services with 24- hour helpline, according to the draft.
