British Embassy In Hungary To Move From Pest To Buda
The British Embassy in Hungary is moving from its Harmincad utca location in central District V, to Füge utca in Budaʼs District II, a property previously occupied by the Netherlands Embassy, Hungarian weekly HVG reported this morning. The new British Embassy building in Füge utca was designed by Dutch architects 20 years ago, HVG said. The British Embassy has been located at Harmincad utca since 1947, in a rented building, the lease of which expires this year, HVG writes.

The new embassy building is much smaller than its current headquarters.

Theresa Bubbear, Chargé dʼAffaires to Hungary at the British Embassy, told the paper that the embassy is only using one quarter of the space in Harmincad utca, and pays unnecessarily high utility fees.

Therefore the move is largely financially motivated, HVG writes.
