Fidesz May Not Support Budapest Mayor Tarlós In 2019
Prime Minister Viktor Orbán told Budapest mayor István Tarlós at their last meeting that he will not be the Fidesz party’s candidate for mayor at the 2019 local elections, an influential source told Népszabadság on Friday.

When they met before Christmas Orbán advised Tarlós to “make the most of” the three and half years that are left.

Tarlós told Népszabadság that he cannot take such a report seriously, as Orbán told him nothing of the sort.

“I never disputed Fidesz’s right to designate whoever it wants. They nominated me of their own volition in 2014 and I did not seek the nomination.”

He then asked Népszabadság “Are you sure that there will be direct election of mayors in 2019?”
