Amnesty Criticises Hungary On Rights
Hungary built a fence along its southern border and became a zone where asylum seekers were denied the right to a fair hearing, Amnesty International writes in its annual report, released yesterday.

The government’s decision to criminalise unauthorised entry and to seal the borders complemented legislative measures adopted last summer that restricted refugee rights, the report adds.

Amnesty also noted that NGOs critical of the government faced harassment and threats of losing their status last year.

Discrimination against Roma in access to accommodation continued, as it was mostly Roma families that were exposed to the risk of forceful eviction from a Miskolc district, the rights group said.

Some 120 families were forcefully evicted between March and June of last year.
