Population Decline Slows In Jan-Feb
Hungary’s population decline slowed in the first two months of the year as the number of births increased by 0.5% and the number of deaths decreased by 18% compared with the same period last year, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) reported.

Preliminary figures show that there were 14,843 births in January- February, up by 70 from the same period a year earlier.

According to leap day-adjusted data, the number of births for the period was down by 1.2% compared with 2015. The number of deaths was 21,588, KSH said.

The rise in births and the drop in the death rate mean that the rate of natural population decline was down by 41.7% compared with the same period in 2015.

The number of marriages went up by an annual 22 % to 3,430.
