Diana Krall, Mupa, 30 June
Although Diana Krall is most closely associated with jazz, the unique performance style of this five-time Grammy and eight-time Juno Award-winning pianist and singer elevates her beyond categorisation to a place among the most celebrated and inspirational artists of her time. As a mark of her success, no other female jazz performer of the past 30 years has sold more albums, among them nine gold, three platinum and seven multi-platinum discs.

Krall began playing piano at the age of four, one of her most important formative experiences being her father's collection of Fats Waller records, from which she endeavoured to learn every tune by heart.

A reverence for musical traditions has accompanied her career throughout as she has paid homage to Nat King Cole, to the traditional ragtime and jazz of the 1920s and '30s, and to the legends of pop music from Bob Dylan to Elton John, the Eagles and beyond.

Besides recording albums and embarking on extensive tours, she has also found time to produce an album by Barbra Streisand, to do arrangements for Paul McCartney, or to give charity concerts alongside Neil Young in her native Canada.

David Foster, winner of 16 Grammy Awards and producer of her latest album Wallflower, said of Krall: "Diana is someone who can go to all extremes beautifully and she's proven that over and over again.”
