Protests Save Trees In Orczy Kert
Protesters rallied to prevent tree cutting in the Orczy kert park in Budapest’s Eighth District yesterday after local councillor Tamás Jakabfy of LMP alerted environmentalists that healthy trees were being chopped down.

Workers building the new Public Service University cut down three trees before protesters arrived, although university general secretary József Horváth had promised earlier that no trees would be chopped down before plans were changed.

There will be a public forum on June 14 on the revised plan. Horváth again promised that no trees will be cut down before then.

Greenpeace organised a flashmob at Keleti train station in protest against tree cutting in Orczy kert, the City Park and the Római-part in the Third District, where a mobile dam is planned.
