Parlt Suspends Fidesz MP’s Immunity Over Graft Allegations
Lawmakers on Monday suspended the immunity of Fidesz MP Roland Mengyi, who is suspected of corruption involving public funds. Mengyi’s immunity was lifted in a unanimous vote of 167 voters.

Hungary’s public prosecutor Péter Polt initiated the suspension of Mengyi’s immunity last month after an investigation found that he had solicited bribes from social cooperatives in exchange for preferential treatment in their bids for European Union funding.

Mengyi said at the time that he would fully cooperate with authorities and that he supported the suspension of his immunity so that he can clear his name as soon as possible.
