Constitutional Court Allows Photographs Of Police
The Constitutional Court yesterday struck down a Kúria decision that banned the publication of photographs and video footage of police officers on duty without their assent.

Lower courts had earlier ruled that police officers on duty in public places are not public figures, therefore images of them can be made public only with their assent.

The Constitutional Court, however, referred to its ruling in a similar case in 2014 in which it stated that a picture taken of a police action without their consent can be made public if the matter is of public interest from the perspective of the exercise of public power.

Exceptions to the rule are cases in which the release of such images would be offensive to human dignity, for instance by presenting the suffering of a police officer injured in the line of duty.
