EU Has No Legal Means To Ensure Uniform Quality Of Food Products, Says Commissioner
Community law has no provisions under which the European Union could prosecute food producers distributing different quality goods under the same brand in different member states, daily Magyar Idők cited the EU’s commissioner for food safety as saying.

Vytenis Andriukaitis suggested that food companies cannot be obliged to make their products suit “national taste, preferences or purchasing power”.

Instead, the commissioner encouraged consumers to approach consumer protection organisations and demand a uniform quality irrespective of their country.

Companies may decide to use different ingredients in different countries but consumers must be accurately informed, the commissioner said.
