Airport Starts Major Expansion Work
The construction of a new pier at terminal 2B of Budapest’s Liszt Ferenc International Airport began on Wednesday, the airport manager announced.

As Budapest is one of the fastest-growing airports in Europe, its expansion requires new infrastructure development, said Budapest Airport CEO Jost Lammers.

The present project is part of the airport’s Ft 50 billion BUD 2020 development plan.

The new passenger wing will be opened within 18 months, substantially adding to the capacity of the airport.

The pier, 220 metres long and 30 metres wide, will service 27 new gates, of which ten will have passenger boarding bridges. Three of them will be able to serve larger aircraft.

Budapest Airport received 11.4 million passengers in 2016.
