Canada Rejects Ex-MEP’s Asylum Bid
Canadian authorities have definitively rejected a request for asylum from former Free Democrat MEP Viktória Mohácsi after a four-year legal process.

Mohácsi, a Roma, left Hungary in 2011 after working before 2010 as ministerial commissioner overseeing the integration of Roma and disadvantaged children.

She said in 2012 that she would seek political asylum in Canada because she had received death threats after criticising the investigation into the series of Roma murders in 2008-09 for proceeding too slowly.

Mohácsi said the Gyurcsány cabinet wanted to conceal information related to the investigation for 80 years.

She told Magyar Nemzet that she does not know whether she will engage in political and human rights activity after returning to Hungary.
