The award going with a cash prize of 60,000 Australian dollars was presented to Enyedi at a gala event on Sunday.
“It’s a film that shows us that even in a divided world we are capable of sharing the same dreams; that amongst the ugliness of a slaughterhouse, kindness, gentleness can be found,” jury president Margaret Pomeranz said, according to the Sydney Morning Herald.
“It’s marvellous that such a film can move so many people. It gives me so much hope in cinema and in human communication,” the paper quoted Enyedi as saying upon taking over the award. On Body and Soul fetched the top prize at the prestigious Berlin film festival in February this year.
