Budapest Expands Pay Parking
City council expanded the zones in which drivers must pay to park on streets, as it modified regulations in Budapest yesterday.

For the first time, parking fees will be in effect in the Fourth District, in areas near metro stations.

District mayor Zsolt Wintermantel said this is a traffic control measure, not an effort to raise income, because car parks have become overcrowded since the adjacent 13th District expanded its pay zones.

Parking fees in the Sixth and Seventh Districts were raised to the level of the neighbouring 14th District, close to the City Park.

The weekend and holiday fees for parking in the City Park, introduced in September, have been cancelled.
