Journalist Beaten, For Trying To Officially Complain, By KFC Security Guard In Downtown Budapest
Index journalist Zoltán Szabó reported on Monday that he had been beaten by the security guard of KFC fast food restaurant on Király utca in the Seventh District in Budapest Sunday evening.

The service attendant told him that he could order only take-out; the journalist asked for the complaint registry but was told there is no such thing. He then called for the store manager, who offered him a blank piece of paper to submit his complaint. The journalist argued it would just be discarded. The manager then ordered the security guard to throw him out. The journalist recorded his own beating on video and then called the police.

KFC marketing manager Nándor Juhász said that a full-scale internal inquiry had been launched. Juhász called the incident worrisome.

Tamás Fukcius, regional director of the chain, expressed his regret and wrote in a statement that the conduct of the security guard and some of their employees runs counter to the values of the company and it accepts full responsibility for the incident. Fukcius said the security guard in question had been fired.

The manager of the restaurant was suspended and staff will be trained again on the basic principles of how to treat customers.
