Ethnographic Museum Closing
The last ticket was sold at the Museum of Ethnography on Kossuth tér on Thursday and a free farewell party is planned at the weekend before the building closes down to house the Kúria and the Prosecutor General’s Office.

The Museum of Ethnography moved to its current location in 1975. The government plans to reopen it in the City Park.

The exhibitions will be closed from Monday. The museum archive and library will be open throughout 2018.

Museum director Lajos Kemecsi said preparing an inventory, photographing and packing the institution’s 260,000 objects will take 18-24 months.

The new building in City Park is planned to be completed in August 2019 and a new permanent exhibition to open in late 2020.
