'An Introduction To Meditation', By Philosopher Philip Goff, 22 March
Meditation – or contemplative prayer – has always been part of Christian worship, although it has sadly been neglected in recent times. Since the 1980s, the ecumenical Worldwide Community for Christian Meditation has nevertheless attempted to reintroduce Christian groups to the spiritual benefits of meditation.

There is strong scientific evidence for the health benefits of a regular practice of calming and focusing the mind. But it is also a powerful tool for opening oneself up to the presence of the Holy Spirit.

“When thinking about my meditation practice,” comments Central European University philosopher Philip Goff of our parish community, “I often recall Saint Paul’s beautiful line, ‘…we do not know how to pray as we ought, but that very Spirit intercedes for us with sighs too deep for words.’

“Praying with our own words,” continues Philip, “is important, but it is also good to quieten the mind and open ourselves up to the silent words of God.”

In preparation for Holy Week, Philip will lead us in an ecumenical Christian meditation session.
