After years of style shaping and sound experiments, the jazz quartet, composed of Michel Meis (drums and composition), Cédric Hanriot (piano), Stephan Goldbach (double bass) and Alisa Klein (trombone), decided to go for a genre that can’t be labeled easily.

Freedom and experimental improvisations meet straight compositions and introverted melodies as well as electronic sound effects – these are the trademarks of a quartet that evolves from gig to gig.

Sources of inspiration like Brian Blade, Christian Lillinger, Ambrose Akinmusire, Jakob Bro, Mark Guiliana or Tool as well as the four musicians’ broad musical background, ranging from jazz and folk to classical music and electronica to punk and metal, offer countless stylistic possibilities that forge the Michel Meis 4tet’s very personal and unique musical identity.

Michel Meis 4tet’s debut album Lost in Translation will be released in January 2019 in the “Jazz thing Next Generation” series on the German label Double Moon Records.

Recorded in November 2017 during an artist residency at Opderschmelz, the project was presented in May this year at the renowned international jazz festival “Like A Jazz Machine” in Dudelange. Luxembourg.

It is a special pleasure that this outstanding quartet will present the program of their forthcoming album in the Opus Jazz Club as sort of a closing act of the BMC International Tenor and Bass Trombone Competition.
