Budapest Boat Tragedy Relatives May Sue In Switzerland
Relatives of the Hableány boat accident victims can expect to receive higher financial compensation if they file lawsuits in Switzerland than in Hungary, Magyar Nemzet writes.

Zoltán Borbély, an attorney representing Panorama Deck, the operator of the sightseeing boat, said that in the case of fatal accidents, Ft 10 million is the maximum compensation allocated to victims’ relatives in Hungary, whereas in Switzerland or the US compensation of this kind is on a far higher scale.

The operator of the Viking Sigyn is registered in Switzerland, which entitles plaintiffs to sue there.

Relatives of the Hungarian victims also have this right, even though the deceased were Hungarian citizens and the legal proceedings will be conducted under Hungarian law.
