Budapest Sixth District Raises Tax On Airbnb
New commercial accommodations opening in Budapest’s Sixth District including Airbnb units, will have to pay a one-off fee of Ft 2.8-5.6 million from January 1, the district council decided on Thursday.

The fee rises from the earlier Ft 1.2-1.5 million, and varies according to the type of accommodation.

One of every 15 homes in the district is an Airbnb and there are 27 ongoing hotel construction projects, the decree underlines, adding that proceeds from the fee will be used to improve residents’ quality of life and to deal with the “car parking chaos”.

Accommodation owners are receiving income from visitors, while related costs, such as noise, scarcity of parking places and cleaning up after tourists have to be borne by the district, the council highlighted.
