State Takes Responsibility For Bicycle Paths In Hungary
The state road manager Magyar Közút Nonprofit has taken over the management of more than 1,000 kilometres of bicycle paths in the last two years and in essence has completed this process, Innovation and Technology Ministry state secretary László Mosóczi announced.

The total length of bicycle roads, dedicated to cyclists only, is 4,000km, he said as he opened a bicycle path connecting the Csongrád county village of Szatymaz to Szeged.

Until a few years ago, maintenance of bicycle paths was the exclusive duty of local governments.

In the absence of uniform practices, the condition of different sections varied greatly, so the government decided to take them over. Magyar Közút also manages the 32,000km state road network.
