Hungary To Finally Start Lake Fertő Project
The government has earmarked Ft 9.1 billion for construction of the Lake Fertő sports and “wellness” centre in Fertőrákos in 2020-2021, according to the official gazette Magyar Közlöny.

This is a serious cut in the budget that was expected to reach Ft 30 billion, based on plans announced in 2018, local media commented.

The state-run company Sopron-Fertő abandoned the construction of a 100-room hotel with 26 apartments, a visitors’ centre, birdhouse and a lakeside lookout tower after UNESCO and the European Commission began to investigate the project.

A private person had turned to UNESCO, requesting that the lake and its surroundings be included in the list of endangered areas.

It is unclear what will be built and when, from the Ft 4.1 billion set aside in 2020 and the Ft 5 billion in 2021, local media added.
