'Shine', Fashion & Glamour Exhibition, Kiscelli Museum Budapest
On view until September. Clothes and fashion, which keeps changing, are an essential means of human communication. The desire to look different, to stand out from the crowd, is a force that propels fashion.

Textiles, accessories, and ornaments that attract attention or represent a special value play a special part in this regard. And shiny things answer at least one of these ends.

As society changes, so does the purpose of use: while before the 19th century silks with metallic threads, embroidery, laces, and precious stones were to emphasize social differences, in the 20th century they were mostly used to make the individual stand out, to highlight personality.

Glittery clothes trace changes in society and lifestyle habits, and bear evidence to the events and social occasions that caused people, for ever changing reasons, to appear in such striking pieces of apparel.

These are some of the aspects this exhibition considers as it presents glittering clothes from different periods, in various styles.

The exhibition is on view until 15 March.
