Hungarian Cabinet Caps Petrol Prices
The cabinet is capping the price of gasoline and diesel oil at a Ft 480 per litre from November 15, Prime Minister’s Office leader Gergely Gulyás announced at the cabinet’s press conference on Thursday.

Current average pump prices are Ft 506 per litre for 95-octane gasoline, and Ft 512 per litre for diesel fuel.

The price ceilings will be in effect for three months, after which they will be reviewed.

The price ceiling does not apply to premium fuel products or to 100-octane petrol.

Any filling station that violates the price cap can be closed by authorities.

When it was suggested that some filling stations might close if they cannot make a profit, Gulyás said retailers cannot be forced to sell their products.

He confirmed that the tax on fuel will not change, and said there will be no compensation for petrol retailers.

Following the announcement, the MOL share price fell by 5%.
