Bubi Expands With 900 Bicycles in Budapest
The MOL Bubi public bike system, largely re-newed nearly a year ago, will be expanded, as the Budapest Transport Centre (BKK) will procure new bicycles and establish new col-lection stations, mayor Gergely Karácsony announced at a press conference on Monday.

He said the coronavirus epidemic has changed transport habits and one of the posi-tive elements is that cycling has grown signifi-cantly worldwide, including Budapest.

Karácsony said he wants to serve this growth by building a safe cycling infrastructure in Budapest.

BKK leader Katalin Walter announced that the MOL Bubi system will expand with 900 more bicycles and 75 collection stations. The first 350 bicycles will arrive in the second half of the year.

At present, the system has 1,560 bicycles and 162 parking stations.

The system has 126,000 registered users, including 12,000 new registrants in April, said Walter, adding that the number of daily rentals exceeds 5,700.
