Rise in Utility Prices to Hit Hungarian Rental Market
The cuts in subsidies for household utilities will slow the growth of rental rates, according to Rentingo.com, a community-based rental search platform.

Rents have climbed steadily over the last 12-18 months, bouncing back from lows during the pandemic.

The government’s announcement last week of an end to gas and electricity subsidies for consumption above the national average could lead to a significant increase in costs for tenants in homes with poor energy efficiency, Rentingo said.

Demand for small flats and properties with district heating is expected to rise.

Utility costs accounted for 21-27% of rent paid, on average, based on the type of buildings.
