Iconic Hotel in Budapest Awarded 'Protected Status'
The Astoria Hotel in downtown Budapest has been declared a protected building by the Commercial and Catering Industry Museum (MVKM) as part of the celebrations of the city’s 150th anniversary.

The protected building programme mainly includes downtown shops, hotels, restaurants, pubs, coffee houses, and pastry shops.

The Hotel Duna Intercontinental, the New York Café, and the Gerbaud and Ruszwurm confectioneries are already on the constantly expanding list.

The aim of the programme is to preserve the furnishings and original form of shops and restaurants with a long history, and if this is not possible, to move these objects to a museum.

The histories of shops and restaurants that are already protected or nominated for protection, including photos and videos are available on the MKVM website.
